Does Your Home Need An Electrical Repair? Here's What You Need To Know

Posted on

When you have a home, you want to protect it and your family from electrical problems that can seem to come out of nowhere. Knowing the signs that your home is in need of electrical repair will help ensure that you are able to call for an electrician as quickly as possible. Here are some of the things you need to keep an eye out for:

Your Electrical Panel Is Hot To The Touch

Too many times, homeowners fail to keep a proper eye on the home's electrical panel. It falls into the "out of sight, out of mind" category, but you do not want that to continue to be the case. It is important to make sure that you are occasionally going to your electrical panel, opening the door on it, and placing the back of your hand against the metal panel that surrounds the individual breakers. If this panel is in your basement, it is essential to make sure that there is not any water on the floor before you touch the panel, as some basements can have small water leaks. If you touch the panel and it feels hot to the touch, you will want to immediately turn off the power to the home by flipping the main breaker into the off position. While this might be an inconvenience, it is much easier to deal with than a house fire. The heat may be a result of electrical wires or breakers sparking or beginning to catch fire. At this point, you will want to call for an emergency electrician.

You Have To Keep Flipping Breakers Back On

If you find that you have to run to the electrical panel a few times a week to flip breakers back into the on position because they flipped themselves off, you have an electrical problem that needs to be addressed by a licensed electrician. The reason the breakers are flipping into the off position in the first place is that there is an overload of electrical current flowing through and it is too dangerous. As a safety precaution, the breakers flip into the off position by design in order to protect you. A skilled electrician will be able to evaluate the situation and update your panel accordingly.

Do make sure that you are taking your time to search out the best electrician for work in your home. This way, you will be able to trust their workmanship, and you will be able to get the job done quickly.
